ALENTEJO
Wine region of great tradition, the Alentejo has wines that surprise us with excellence, aromas and colors, as unique as the landscape and the gastronomy itself.
This region of vast horizons, to which cork oaks give a sense of strength and perenniality, was once an extensive field of wheat. Nowadays, the vineyards give way to huge vineyards, whose wines receive the strength of the landscape and the ambient heat, being among the most recognized of Portugal.
In addition to the Alentejano Regional Wine, which is located throughout the region, wine producers are distributed in 8 areas of Controlled Origin Denomination – Portalegre, Borondo, Redondo, Reguengos, Vidigueira, Évora, Granja / Amareleja and Moura. which allows a variety of choice in any point of the Alentejo.
The different characteristics of the soil depending on the area (granite, limestone, Mediterranean or schist), the innumerable hours of sun exposure and a selection of selected varieties allows a high quality production, combined with the ability to maintain the tradition of flavor but innovating in art to make the wine.
As for what distinguishes them, the white wines are aromatic, fresh and harmonious, while reds, ruby or garnet, are more intense, full bodied and at the same time soft and slightly astringent.
To make the right choice and know the best to accompany a meal, nothing like visiting a winery, where we are well received by winemakers more understood and ready to take all doubts. We can also start with the Evidence Room of the Alentejo Wine Route in Évora, where you can also suggest various routes around the region.
And it is always an opportunity to visit this city that is a World Heritage Site. To know the secrets of wine, we suggest other ways to do this, such as visiting the Enoteca and the Redondo Wine Museum or participating in the harvest parties at the end of the summer, where Borba is a good example with its Vineyard Festival and of Wine.
And if the wines combine the delicious Alentejo cheeses and the aromatic flavors of the Alentejo gastronomy, then the visit will undoubtedly be richer and fuller.
